Instrument Requirements

To start a piano lesson, a well maintained acoustic piano (needs to be tuned at least once every year)

or a digital piano with 88 weighted keys & pedal is required at a student's home.

Teacher's Responsibility

The teacher will provide a safe, supportive, positive learning environment. The curriculum will be tailored to support each student’s individual learning.

Student's Responsibility

Students are expected to arrive ON TIME (recommend arrive 5 minutes prior to the start of each lesson) with music, and expected to PRACTICE DAILY.

Practice Expectations

  1. DAILY PRACTICE is expected and required for progress.
  2. Parents should help their child include piano practice in their daily routine.
  3. Rewards

  • Students get a small treat at the lesson if they successfully complete everything on the assignment sheet AND practice at least 5 days a week.
  • There will be a special reward for '30 Days of Consecutive Practice Challenge' '60 Days', and '100 Days'.

Parents and students are strongly encouraged to communicate via text or email regarding questions over assignments, practice, and etc.

 * Adult Students

After each lesson, you will get a practice plan from me depending on your progress and skill level. We will also discuss what worked well and why, and what you could have done differently to manage practice time efficiently.

Performance Opportunities

Students are encouraged to participate in the ANNUAL STUDIO RECITAL as well as STUDIO CLASSES.

  • Annual studio recital will be held on May or June. This is a great opportunity for students to develop stage presentation abilities.
  • Studio classes are informal gatherings held occasionally on Saturdays or Sundays at Kang Music Studio. Here, students play for each other, share musical ideas, and interact through various musical games. Students should participate studio classes at least once or twice a year.

Lesson Fee Payment

Lesson fee should be paid per month and it is due on or before the 1st of each month.

Preferred check or Zelle online payment method.

Missed Lesson Policy

  • Please choose a lesson day/time which works consistently with you/your child’s schedule to avoid cancelations or rescheduling.
  •  Any lesson that the teacher has to cancel should be made up.
  •  Parents should notice at least 24 hours in advance regarding any known upcoming absences.
  •  No make-up lessons and refunds for missed lessons/time WITHOUT notice.
  • If inclement weather prevents students from traveling, the lesson will be held online (FaceTime or Zoom).
  • Make up lessons can be done either online or in-person depending on teacher's availability.

Illness Policy

If the student is ill / not feeling well / contagious for any reason, the student should not attend the lesson in-person—the lesson will take place online that day if a student feels well enough to play.

If the student (or a family member) has tested positive for COVID-19, the student should have their lesson(s) online until it is safe to resume in-person lessons.
