Pianist Seo Hee Kang is a passionate and versatile artist with an impressive international career. Her performances have graced stages across the United States, France, Scotland, and South Korea. Dr. Kang holds a Doctoral of Musical Arts degree in Piano Performance and Literature from the esteemed University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where she studied under the renowned pianist and conductor, Ian Hobson.
In her early years, Dr. Kang pursued her musical education at Seoul National University under the guidance of Professor Hee-Sung Joo, where she earned her Bachelor of Music degree with honors. She later furthered her studies in the United States, attending the prestigious Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY, under the tutelage of Natalya Antonova, and obtaining her Master of Music degree in Piano Performance and Literature.
In addition to her successful career as a performer, Dr. Kang is also a dedicated piano teacher with over a decade of experience. Her students, ranging from young children to adults of all levels and abilities, have benefited from her expertise. As an Adjunct Piano Faculty at Andrews University, she taught both piano major and non-piano major students. She also served as a piano instructor in the Piano Laboratory Program at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, mentoring students of all ages and levels. Dr. Kang's educational goal is to enrich her students by nurturing their musical artistry and providing them with positive musical experiences that will accompany them throughout their lives.
Dr. Kang's remarkable talent has earned her top prizes in numerous competitions in the United States and South Korea, including the Sinfonia da Camera Concerto Competition (IL), Southern Illinois Young Artist Competition (IL), Eumyoun Competition (Seoul), Sungjung Cultural Foundation Competition (Seoul), Kyungsung University Competition (Busan), and Kyunghyang Music Competition (Busan). Her exceptional achievements are a testament to her dedication, skill, and passion for music.
